I don’t know what I’m doing here (Original Mix)
Pako & Frederik have been on the rounds since the 90’s mainly associated with the progressive side of the scene with some leanings towards acid house. In this three track EP, the original mix is probably the more reserved track of them all, and I suppose the original mix will somewhat have those tendencies. ‘I don’t know’ opens with a nice steady pulse, perfectly ideal for those long mix intros, the hats kick in in the tracks first third that signals a subtle change in the energy and tells the listener it’s going places. Almost 2 minutes in we’re treated to our first break, or let’s call it change in the energy, there’s no massive drops here or silences before a crashing return that’s in so many tracks today, but rather a subtle morphing and deep synth that builds into an acid style groove that keeps building in intensity. This is a slow burner, for those warm up sets or where a mid set energy changes is demanded without loosing the heart of your set. Well done.
8/10.
I don’t know what I’m doing here (KoZY Remix)
KoZY is no stranger to the remix scene and this effort follows hot on the heels from his recent Traxsource techno number one ‘Lost Symphony’. From the first beat there’s a harder element straight off the bat, sweeping synth based builds us up to the tracks first break and an almost 80’s sounding computer ‘bleep’ marks time in the break, building up steadily until that solid kick comes back taking us for another gallop. This recipe is repeated for the remainder of the track. Nice and punchy from the get go, KoZY adds another well-constructed cracker to his Discography.

I don’t know what I’m doing here (Mal Black Remix)
Mal Black returns to Radiate with his take on I don’t know where he stays closer to the original tempo. Mal adds a nice break and reverb sound to the opening part of the track, with energy building from the start and vocal sample dropping in and out while keeping time until our first break that arrives at just over 3 minutes into the track. There is no ‘drop’ or eager silence, Mal gives us an ecstatic energy rush (yes, those type!) that just keeps on giving and giving, there’s a small pause in the flow where the listener is tickled with a subtle melodic sample that perfectly lays the groundwork for another headlong rush into kick drums, synths and swooshes. Energetic? Yes. Melodic? Yes. Progressive? Somewhat. Good track? Hell yes. Hats off to Mal for this whopper remix, which would be my favourite of the three on the EP.
