For me Miki Mad is a relative newcomer on the European scene, he hails from Montivedeo, Uruguay and has had a number of past releases on Detroit’s Motek and London’s PP Music. He’s remixed some big names in the industry such as Pleasurekraft and Todd Terry so he know’s the terrain. I recently got my hands on his remix of New Order’s – Crystal which went down a storm with the older generation of clubbers (that would remember New Order in their prime). So on with this review of these two tracks, the first of which is Mata Hari.
Mata Hari - Mata Hari opens with a nice pumping kick and acid loop that warps and change’s frequency intermittently, we’re treated to a nice cymbal based riff that signals the change in tone of the track introducing a stabbing synth backed by that acid loop that’s slightly reverbed, a small break occurs and were off into the second part of the track where the 1st chapter is repeated, albeit we have some more loops thrown in before the end, which, I feel that may have been put there as an afterthought to fill or change that second half of the track.
You Know. You Know – opens with a steady almost tribal loop quickly sweeping into multi level hats that take the listener into a steady pace building upwards with rising synths into a short drop with a nice vocal sample and away we go again, we get a repeat sweep with more of that vocal loop along the journey. You Know is a steady mover and I’d aim it at mid set to keep the floor energy steadily moving along.
One thing is for sure, Miki Mad is here for the long run and given some of his other works on top of this, I’ll be keeping a close eye and ear out for some gems in the future, keep it up!
