1990 Reconstructed: D-Shake’s “Techno Trance” Return

There are records that came amid the Acid House summer and still resonate throughout our body and soul. Records that were built to evoke intense feelings. One of those is “Techno Trance”, originally released in 1990 by D-Shake, the moniker of the multifaceted Dutch artist Aad de Mooij.

This record exhales pure rave revolution. It’s an authentic landmark of that era and, for many listeners, represented a pivotal shift from the House and Acid House sounds of the late ’80s towards the harder, futuristic sounds that would define the rave era.

This year, the mighty French label Nocturbulous Records, which never disappoints – last year they released Quadraphonia’s “lost” second album from 1993, along with a few other treasures – brings “Techno Trance” into a new era. On this new edition, Endrik Schroeder has completely reconstructed the track from scratch, faithfully capturing the original’s sound, arrangement and raw energy. He is joined by Panthera for a brand-new remix, bringing a contemporary edge while keeping the spirit of the original firmly intact.

The story behind the track is just as powerful. One listener recalls first hearing “Techno Trance” on pirate radio in 1990 as “a revelation from the universe”. This is a fitting description of the impact these records could have at the time.

Officially licensed by D-Shake’s Aad de Mooy, the project also features artwork by Guillaume-Ulrich Chifflot of Number Nine. Alongside the digital release, a strictly limited 10-inch vinyl edition will be available exclusively through Bandcamp, with just 30 numbered copies produced. More than a nostalgic revisit, this is a respectful reconstruction of a pivotal rave-era track, bringing a piece of 1990 back to today’s dancefloors.
